Todos los medios nos han anunciado que este 14 de noviembre tendremos en el cielo una Superluna, pero ¿Qué es una Superluna?
Una Superluna ocurre cuando vemos La Luna con un tamaño más grande del habitual y además coincide con que la vemos en fase de Luna Llena (iluminada por completo por el Sol).
Y ¿Por qué vemos La Luna con diferentes tamaños?
La Luna gira alrededor de La Tierra en una órbita con trayectoria elíptica, lo que hace que haya momentos en los que se encuentra en la posición más alejada de La Tierra (APOGEO), donde la vemos más pequeña y otros en los que se encuentre en la posición más próxima a La Tierra (PERIGEO), donde la vemos más grande.
En concreto el APOGEO acontece cuando La Luna se encuentra a unos 406.000 Km de distancia de La Tierra, mientras que el PERIGEO acontece cuando La Luna se encuentra a unos 357.000 Km de distancia de La Tierra.
Para que os llevéis una idea de cómo de grande se ve en realidad La Luna, y podamos ver si realmente la Superluna (prevista para el lunes 14/11/2016) marcará realmente la diferencia o no, habréis de conocer primero un método para conocer el tamaño de un objeto en el cielo, ahí va:
Teniendo en cuenta que el ancho de la bóveda celeste es de 360º, un dedo (en concreto el meñique) con el brazo estirado marcará un ancho de 1º, 3 dedos serán 5º, etc…según la siguiente imagen:
Pues bien, La Luna en su APOGEO mediría de ancho (diámetro) 0.49º, casi medio dedo meñique, y en su PERIGEO mediría de ancho (diámetro) 0.56º, un poco más de medio dedo meñique.
Por lo que resulta que tiene un 15% más de ancho el PERIGEO que el APOGEO y en cuanto a la luz que es capaz de reflejar, como depende de la superficie, presenta un 30% más de superficie el PERIGEO que el APOGEO.
La última Superluna que pudimos disfrutar con el tamaño de esta fue el 25 de enero de 1948, bueno, los que hubiesen nacido en aquella época. La próxima habremos de esperar hasta 2034.
Aunque parece que en porcentaje deberíamos notar diferencias, en realidad, debido al pequeño tamaño con el que vemos La Luna desde La Tierra (sigue siendo poco más de medio dedo meñique), y a que el aumento de tamaño ha venido siendo paulatino, no notaremos una diferencia apreciable a simple vista.
Aunque nuestra reflexión sobre la Superluna pueda parecer decepcionante, no deja de ser una buena excusa para sentarse a mirar esa inmensa bola que da vueltas alrededor de nuestro planeta.
